Photo, Film & Video Digitizing

On this page are descriptions of the primary services we offer to perform photo, film and video conversion to digital. Included services are scanning of photos, negatives and slides. We also convert film and video (VHS and Hi8mm) to digital. We optimize, color correct, repair scratch and damage to photographs and resize where required. All services are performed one photo, slide, negative, film or tape at a time and each one receives personal attention to detail. Please note that we currently do not offer printing service of photos. We can provide a print ready version of the completed work, however, if required.

Scanning

We will scan any number of photos, slides or negatives in either color or black and white. Maximum photograph size is 11x17. Rates for scanning are here. Scanning does not include any repair or optimization of photos and standard file format of a scan is jpg. Optional .tif format is available.

Optimizing

Optimization is the process of sizing and configuring photos for display in digital photo frames or for placement on the Internet. The cost of optimization includes only the time necessary to resize the digital photo to present correctly on line or in a digital photo frame.

Color Correction

Color correction is where an old photo can really come back to life. Over time, the ravages of the environment can cause a photo to fade. Some color photographs can lose almost all their color detail. We can refresh an image by bringing back life to the color of a photo. Black and white photos are subject to the same type of damage. Enhancing the blacks and adjusting the gray tones of a photo can make a huge difference in the way a photograph prints or displays. Once the adjustments are completed the photo is saved to digital format and preserved. Some examples of older color and black and white photos that have been enhanced can be seen here.

Restoration & Repair

Except for colorizing, scratch and damage repair is the most intense of all photo restoration services because of the need to preserve the look and detail of the photo. Scratches are a common problem even with newer photos that were not kept separated and have been subjected to abuse. To see a sample of a photo that has been repaired of scratch and dent issues please visit this page.

Color correction and repair also applies to videos. Many imperfections can be removed during the digital conversion, including light and dark areas, flashes and other distractions. Color can be enhanced and improved as well. This is especially the case with 8mm and super 8mm film conversion. There is more information detailing the type of work that can be done to a video on our film conversion page.

Please note that no amount of work can make an out of focus original photo in focus.

Colorizing

Colorizing of a photo involves taking a photo that was originally black and white and for the sake of dramatically altering the look, we add color. Adding color is a time-consuming process but if you are looking for a way to dramatically enhance a black and white photo, there is no better way. Likewise, if you would like color photos converted to black and white, we can do that as well.

Photo & Film Preservation

At Concepts11 we will preserve your photo(s) by saving to jpg format and adding them to either a CD or DVD disc. For a slightly higher fee we can also save to Blue Ray or thumb drive if you prefer one of those formats instead.

Super 8mm and regular 8mm films are cleaned with a special film cleaner and preservation fluid. Even though you may be converting your old films to digital, it is still a good idea to preserve the original film as well.
